After considering different options, I have two main ideas I wish to exploit more.

1) When looking at the versions of Star Trek themed Monopoly games, there were plenty revolving around the different series'. However, i found no recollection of one based on the specific series I am most fond of, which means I'd have nothing to compare my own ideas to or analyse for inspiration, but would have freedom to have a go at designing the board from perhaps a new angle that the existing games haven't considered or just haven't dared stray from the original concept of the game.

2) My second idea that I'd like to take forward would be to design a Monopoly game based on my own fictional characters. With this idea, I wouldn't only have complete freedom to change the game how I wanted, but also incorporate new elements into the game, with having control over every aspect of it and not having to design accordingly to adhere to a franchise.

I will continue with research and begin planning initial Board layouts and token pieces for my own game.

I came across the Monopoly 'Revolution' version and now wish to set my game out in the same way. Every or at least most of the variations i've found keep to the standard layout of the original game (the colours, Jail, Properties and Rules).

The board here is very different to the original square board and it is what attracted me to it. The idea of a circular base for the game may present the minor issue of the spaces to land on being smaller, but the general layout is appealing and seems more of a challenge for me to attempt to replicate in my own way.

I have also researched the Parker Brothers who were the original creators of the popular games Monopoly, Clue, Risk and Trivial Pursuit along with over 1,000 other published games.

I have chosen, after considering my options and Mind-Mapping ideas, to pursue designing and creating a Monopoly Game, simply because there may be more aspects I can change enabling me to explore a franchise better than if I’d have attempted CLUE. Creating the Monopoly game may also be more of a challenge but still achievable before the deadline.

I have researched variations of the trademark Monopoly board game and had some initial ideas based on the Sci-Fi editions such as Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who. As i'm quite a fan of these three i plan to look into them more and perhaps develop a Board Game similar.

I began this project brainstorming possible ideas and outcomes and eventually decided i wanted to design and possibly create a prototype board game which will involve a mix of different skills (mainly graphical and illustrative).

My first thoughts then were to research the most popular family games of the least few years.

The top 5 were Chess, Checkers, Monopoly, Scrabble and Clue. I feel it may be easier to create a variation of one of these classic games rather than come up with a completely new concept in the timeframe i have. The most likely game i will take forward will either be Clue or Monopoly as they seem diverse enough for me to design something new but keep to the standard rules and layout of the original with having somewhere to start.
